Philip Amalong is an active pianist, soloist, chamber musician, recording artist, producer and entrepreneur. For eleven years before coming to Zenph, he led the keyboard program at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, OH, where he was also Chair of the Dept. of Music and spearheaded the college’s first online course offerings. He previously was on the faculty at Xavier University and his first business venture started at age 21—a successful music production company which immersed him in the world of music technology from the early days of MIDI and digital audio. He has composed music and sonic branding solutions for hundreds of commercials and television programs, including themes for national advertising campaigns and almost all of the network daytime television dramas.

As a pianist, Music and Vision Daily described him as "a virtuoso of the first order" and his performances have taken him throughout the U.S. and Europe. He performs extensively with his chamber ensemble Conundrum on concert series and festivals throughout the U.S. Phil was featured as a soloist at the Newport Music Festival in 2011, and performs regularly on faculty recitals at Duke University in his hometown of Durham, NC. He is a Grammy® voting member of the Recording Academy, an active member and presenter in the College Music Society, Chamber Music America, MTNA and BMI.

A devoted recording artist and producer, his Albany Records release titled Touch: the Toccata Project, features twenty piano toccatas including world premiere recordings of works by George Antheil, Vincent Persichetti, Lee Hoiby and others. Critics worldwide have praised the singularity of the project and the exciting performances. His additional recordings have been released on Albany, Eroica and Titanic labels.

He developed his love for chamber music as a child, performing with a piano trio coached by Metta Watts and Orlando Cole at The New School of Music and Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. He attended the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music after winning a Van Cliburn Scholarship, studying with Frank Weinstock and later earning a Master's degree in collaborative piano as a student of Sandra Rivers.

As the community leader of the ZOEN, Phil is eager to be your partner in creating your success as an online educator. Phil invites you to read his blog and start a conversation with him on social media.

What is the ZOEN?

The Zenph Online Education Network (ZOEN) is an online community of music teachers and students focused on delivering quality learning and live instruction in a safe and secure online environment.

What’s in it for music instructors?
In addition to helping piano and guitar teachers earn more income by finding and teaching students online, the ZOEN includes a number of tools designed to help teachers save money and time by managing billing and payments through a secure transaction system. The ZOEN also provides cloud-based tools to manage music lesson plans and email communications with students and parents. We are a community of reputed instructors sharing best practices that go far beyond standard online music lessons.

Who’s behind this?
The ZOEN is brought to you by Zenph – our award winning Re-Performance® technology was named one of the “Best Ideas of the Year” by The New York Times Magazine and has earned us accolades from music lovers and critics the world over, including multiple GRAMMY® nominations.
